Software/websites
-
SupercellWX: A free open source radar software. quite basic, but offers level II and level III radar data, currently only offers American Radar sites. Can view past or present radar data, along with opening stored radar files. Has the ability to use Placefiles. constantly updated, and is open-source. Can be downloaded through Github. documentation can be accessed here, and the GitHub page can be accessed here.
-
WeatherWise: Both an online site, and phone app. Has plenty of radars from around the world, including the US, Canada, Germany, France, and more. is free, but has paid options. Also has MRMS composite radar, models, built in SPC outlooks, satellite data, and models. Minor customization available too, some paid.
-
Weatherfront: Currently just a mobile app, but a desktop app is in the works. Very similiar to radarscope, but is a free alternative, currently just has US and canadian radars (canadian radars were recently added). More limited customization, but it has plenty of features that are usually paid in other apps (such as split screen). I personally use this on my phone, switched over from radaromega.
-
weather.gov: This is just the government site, pretty basic, but has all the data you really need, but other sites are better.
-
Quadweather: Online site, allows you to view downloaded data. Sadly, it is only Level II data, meaning the data comes in slower, but you do have alot more information when compared to level III. To view live data, you have to have an account, but it is free. has dual screen mode, with dealias for velocity too.
-
Live FARM data: Allows yout o view live data from the FARM project, with their mobile radars.
-
Ventusky: Global weather data, no per-site radar and has a premium version, interesting for viewing some more of the basic weather data across the globe.
-
SounderPy: Allows you to view past and present NWS soundings of the atmosphere, good tool, but occasionally breaks.
-
atticradar: website-based radar viewer, has current american radars, with airport towers included. Has basic settings aswell.
-
Meteologix: has everything from models, daily forecasts, access to composite radar for many countries, and they have their own api's.
Forecasting/Nowcasting
-
Weatherwise: Same website as before, but it does have the option to view models for free.
-
Pivitol Weather: One of the best sites out thre for models and observations. has paid options, but is not needed for most of the site. Has most, if not all, models available, with different ways to view the data, personally, I tend to use this site for forecasting.
-
College of Dupage: One of the classics, pretty similiar to Pivitol Weather, but only has models. Completely free and also has most, if not all, of the models available. Used to use this one alot too.
-
mesoanalysis: The government site for live, current data about the atmosphere. This is the site I use when nowcasting. Has everything you need, from like satellite views, mesonet readings, thermodynamic related data, windshear related data, composites, and surface and upper air data. One of the best sites for this.
-
Surface map: Good site for viewing the conditions at the surface, with METAR's
-
Weather Nerds: Lots of forecasting and nowcasting tools available.
-
VAD profiler: Allows you to view current VWP hodographs from American WSR-88d's.
Outlooks
-
Weather.gov: probably one of the easiest ways to get outlooks, might not be the quickest, but its there.
Hurricanes and Typhoons
-
Tropical Tidbits: one of the best for viewing satellite data for all major development areas, along with having the recon planes too! Note: it tends to crash when a historic hurricane/typhoon hits somewhere (looking at you, hurricane mellisa).
-
National hurricane Center: The site for National Hurricane Center, can view watches and warnings, and some information about what the center is thinking about.
-
Dapiya: Good site for Western Pacific (WPAC) typhoons, pretty interesting.
-
US Navy's Tropical Cyclone Site: Goes over the current storms and invests that the Navy/HPC are tracking.
-
Morphed Integrated Microwave Imagery at CIMSS (MIMIC): imagery for hurricanes and whatnot.
-
SondeHub: Allows you to view global sonde's and radiosondes. Usefull for hurricane season, but also has other sondes available.
-
CyclonicWX: Satelite and radar, model data, recon data, and analysis + more.
Space Weather
-
spaceweatherlive: A good site for all around space weather, the link goes to their link page, which has more links to go into, for more space weather (havent decided to add them yet). Loved to use this when waiting for auroras to dip south. Has lots of good information on it.
-
STAR SAR products: not entirely sure what this is (im not too huge into space weather, and know very little about it).
Archives
-
Damage Assessment Toolkit: One of the best for viewing past tornadoes since ~2010. lots of information, and quite detailed paths and damage points. Perfect for the days/week after a tornado hits, as they will be uploaded here first.
-
Tornado Archive: The best for viewing past tornadoes from around the globe. Doesn't have the most recent year to date, usually they wait until the year ends for it to be populated with the tornadoes. Overall, great site for archived tornado data.
-
SPC sounding archive: the SPC's sounding archive from all of the offices, good for looking back at past environments
-
VWP hodographs Archives: simple website to view past VWP hodo's from certain radar sites, real neat.
-
Mesoanalysis archive: pretty much as stated, look at the past mesoanalysis pages from past events.
-
Chaser Archive: Probably one of the coolest community projects out there. Chasers can submit their own chases, with photos and descriptions. They have entries from all over the globe too! With tornadoes, hurricanes, wind events, etc.
-
NTP Dashboard: the Northern Tornado Project's dashboard. Goes over all the events they have surveyed, includes tornadoes and wind events/downbursts. Essentially just the Canadian/ECCC equivalent of the DAT.
NTP dashboard, can be viewed here, has some more information about some of the events too.
-
SPC Today's Storm Reports: Unfiltered and Filtered storm reports for the day, and past days. Good on outbreaks, shows where damage has occurred, also differentiates between wind, tornadic, and other damages, along with hail size reports. All through the SPC themselves.
-
VorticityWX: One of my friends sites, has sounding archives and archive reconstructions for most EF4+ tornadoes since ~2000.
-
MRRL.net: Archiving site for any level II NEXRAD data. Search by radar station or by town/city, with a starting date and time, with an ending date and time. also able to view the SPC storm reports for that day aswell.
-
NCEI Storm Events database: allows you to sort through and find storm events.
-
Radar Hub: Mobile radar data, live data feed. University of Oklahoma (OU)'s site.
-
The Michael Newark Archive: Great list of pre-2000's Canadian Tornadoes, made by the chief meteorologist for Environment Canada from the early 1950's until he retired in the late 1990's, Rather unknown archive.
Research Papers
If you ever so interested, here are a couple of research papers that have eitehr been requested to be put on, or ones that Ive asked around for.
-
Justin Hobson's Thesis: A great in-depth thesis about the June 22nd, 2007 Elie MB F5
-
TornadoGenesis: A really good site for learning more about the processes in tornado-genesis and overall good quality material on meteorology as a whole. Made by the god, Chris Broyles.
Youtube Channels
Misc.

Placefilenation: Great site for placefiles. has many placefiles for anything, including observations, outlooks, hurricane tracks, lightning data, and even MPing placefiles.
-
SupercellWX placefiles: has some placefiles available, should work for anything that can use placefiles
-
supercellWX palcefiles: A site for just some more placefiles, specifically for SupercellWX, has mostly the same things as placefilenation though.
-
TornadoGenesis: A really good site for learning more about the processes in tornado-genesis and overall good quality material on meteorology as a whole. Made by the god, Chris Broyles.
-
ISU mesonet: Has all the mesonets in Iowa.
-
MesoWest: Site with most mesonets in the United States.
-
Master Forecast: seems like a game meant to better your forecasting skills. Its in portuguese, as the creater is from Brazil i believe, but can easily be translated with chrome-based browsers. I have no idea where to put this.
